Here's the recent National Endowment for the Arts magazine (NEA Arts,No. 1, 2012) article about Lowell that went "national" this week. It went "global" also for all the NEA connections to government arts agencies and foundations around the world.

Imagine all the cities in the U.S. that would have wanted to be in Lowell's place here. The issue is limited to five articles about grant recipients since 1967, when the first grants were awarded (140,000 grants since the start). Lowell gets singled out for receiving NEA support at a critical point in its redevelopment. Other articles highlight the Mississippi Arts Commission, a theatre in Minnesota, a dance company in New York City, and African-American poet Nikki Giovanni, now teaching at Virginia Tech.
