We asked Robert Forrant, co-editor of The Big Move: Immigrant Voices from a Mill City, about the relevance of the book to today's cultural and political climate. Here's what he had to say:
“The lives of the people revealed in The Big Move demonstrates all of the difficulties associated with leaving one's home country for new, distant shores. No one makes such a move lightly. Everyone makes such a move in anticipation of improving their life and their family's lives. If you sit down and read these wonderful stories from real people who found their way to Lowell (MA), you come away realizing how important immigrants and refugees are to the life blood of the city.”
